Specialty: Anesthesiology

Favorite thing about APAMSA : The blending of older Asian and younger American cultures create super- talented people.
Advice to medical students: It’s not about you; it’s about the patient. If you’re in medicine for the money, you got the wrong field.

I have served UTHSCSA since 1977 in the division of neonatology/ Department of Pediatrics as full-time tenured professor till 2006 when I reduced my time to 60% with that my title changes to Clinical Professor. My passion is teaching and I feel fulfilled in that role. It was also wonderful to receive the 2013 UT Reagents Outstanding Teaching Award to acknowledge teaching that is so rarely done in Academic institutions. My other passion is advocating for physician education. I have been active in Organized medicine at all levels. In 2004 I was elected President of the Bexar County Medical Society, the first women to hold that position in the 150 year history of that society. I have been a voice for the International Medical Graduate education in the US. I was chair of TMA IMG Section and the AMA IMG section and now serve on the Board of ECFMG, the organization that certifies IMG physicians seeking GME training in the US. My lifes work is with and for the premature infants and their families. After being a neonatologist for 41 years, I now head the Premature Infant Development PREMIEre Program that provides ongoing developmental guidance for these tiny Infants.
